3. My business started by knocking on doors in downtown offices asking them to try my fresh roasted coffee.
Deliveries were made out of my Toyota hatch back. I immigrated from El Salvador when I was 10 years old.
I lived in and attended school in the Mission District of San Francisco. I became an American citizen 10 years ago in San Francisco.
4. Every member of my family has helped or benefited in some way from the business. One of my brothers is our current roastmaster. My father and brother have done construction work for our business warehouse. My mother has provided laundry services and watched my 2 children as I worked. My 18 year old son and 20 year old niece have helped with packing coffee and office filing. My 7 year old son has seen a wonderful work environment and work ethic from all of his family members as he runs around the warehouse.
5. Five people are currently employed by Vasquez Coffee Company. 80% of them are minority.
We have been serving San Francisco businesses for 17 years.
6. We are an artisan roaster that roasts fair trade certified organic shade grown coffee.
Buying fair trade certified coffee directly supports a better life for small coffee farm families through fair prices.
Shade grown coffee is grown under a tree canopy providing food and shelter to birds, plants, and animals. The tree canopy helps
protect coffee plants that grow beneath them from rain and sun, help maintain soil quality, reduce the need for weeding, and aid in
pest control.
Organic grown coffee is grown without chemicals and pesticides.
All of the coffee beans that we roast are high grown arabica which produces a denser, harder, more flavorful bean because the fruit matures more slowly.
Our roaster is environmentally friendly by not emitting smoke into the atmosphere.
