Scientific Certification Systems was founded in 1984. Founder Stanley Rhodes was concerned about pesticide residues on fresh produce and created the NutriClean standard for food purity. In the 1990's, SCS applied its standards-development expertise and environmental commitment to the arena of manufactured products, founding the Environmental Certification Services division and Recycled Content program.
