Founder's story
Priya Haji and Siddharth Sanghvi, two friends that met at UC Berkeley's Haas Business School, founded Original Good in 2004 with a goal of bringing fair trade products from marginalized producer communities all over the world to the mainstream consumer market. Starting with branded kiosks at 50 test stores--including yoga studios, co-ops, natrual foods stores and bookstores--in the San Francisco Bay Area, the company has grown to become a wholesale program that distributes to more than 1,200 stores nationwide, including Whole Foods, Wild Oats,and Wegmanns. Our growth over the past four years has allowed us to support the work of more than 6,000 artisans in 34 countries around the world, impacting the lives of more than 25,000 individuals!
Our mission
Our goal is to make fair trade an everyday choice for consumers, and to do this, we work hard to ensure that every product is on-trend and stylish?and not just by fair trade standards. Our product design and sourcing team works closely with our artisan partners in the field to manage quality control and design four cohesive lines each year that match the aesthetic of the current season. Additionally, since our products are made in homes instead of factories, and often made from locally available material, they leave a smaller environmental footprint.

Through our global network of artisans, we source products that fall into the following categories:
Accessories? A line of unique pieces that include everything from recycled cotton totes to jewelry made from natural materials including horn, bone, wood, and recycled glass beads to hand-woven silk scarves.
Gifts ? A wide assortment of one-of-a-kind products that provide options for meaningful gift-giving, including reclaimed glass keychains, hand-painted porcelain mirrors, copper candle holders, and tree-free paper journals
Housewares ? A line of sophisticated home accessories that provide the perfect complement to a kitchen filled with organic, locally-grown food.The line includes everything from Mother of Pearl salt and pepper shakers, bamboo serveware, palm wood table accessories, and buffalo horn salad tongs
Where the producers live and work
We source our products from a global network of more than 6,000 artisans in 34 countries around the world. More than 80% of our artisans are women; the majority of them mothers, working diligently to hone their craft and grow their business from home, where they can care for their children. Our artisans include AIDS widows in Kenya, flood survivors in Guatemala, and political refugees in Nepal, empowered through their ability to earn a sustainable income and create positive futures for their families and communities.

Through our work with more than 150 artisan groups worldwide, we not only ensure that each of our artisans is paid a fair wage in a local context, but that all of their products reflect the distinct and uniquely beautiful style that has become synonymous with our brand.
