On Saturday, September 27, the Ella Baker Center and a bunch of our friends are throwing an afternoon concert, featuring the funky soul music of Bay Area's rising star Femi! As part of the "Green Jobs Now" National Day of Action, organized by our allies Green For All, 1 Sky, and the We Campaign, this event is one of hundreds -- involving thousands of people -- happening simultaneously around the country. Our event in Oakland will be one of the biggest. We want to send our local officials, Congress and the next President a clear message: | ||||||||||

Dear lauren, As you know, a true eco-equity movement is taking root in the Bay Area, throughout California, and across the US. And because this movement to create green pathways out of poverty requires hard work from a broad coalition of folks, we decided it was high time you got to know some of our allies a little bit better. We're happy to introduce a new series of Partner Profiles, beginning with our friends at Solar Richmond. Solar Richmond, a close regional ally of the Green-Collar Jobs Campaign, is doing amazing work in Richmond |
With all the GREEN BUZZ these days its no wonder that affordable, eco-friendly makeup is being worn by celebrities like Uma Thurman, Heidi Klum, Alicia Silverstone, and Gwyneth Paltrow!
Uma uses Origins Smileage Plus liptint. It's 95% organic and 100% chemical free.
Heidi is a huge fan of the Boots Mediterranean Wonderbalm. This great little product is an all over moisturizer.
Gwyneth supports Pangea Organics Facial Cream. Aside from the cream itself being earth friendly, all packaging is made using a zero waste process. Best of all, you can soak the box in water, and then plant it to grow medicinal herbs.
Alicia Silverstone loves Kiss My Face Obsessively Natural Color 3way tint. It can be used on cheeks, lips and eyes.
Mariska Hargitay helped create PlantLove lipstick. Same deal

I like this post, from GreenAsaThistle.com...Beat the receipt (Day 88)…
I hate when I make a point of gathering together all my tote bags, walking to the grocery store, spending the whole shopping process trying to buy local, organic food with the least amount of packaging, only to finish paying and then get handed a mile-long receipt, sometimes two separate ones if I paid with credit card or debit. I always recycle them when I get home, but still, it provokes a lot of that frustrated, Marge Simpson kind of grumbling.
The worst are the receipts that are twice as wide as the standard cash-register size, printed on glossy white paper and have so much useless information on them they end up running 10 times longer than need be — like

Interesting article featuring this "green ultimatum" from the UK (posted on the UK Guardian online):
US airlines must pay for their carbon dioxide emissions or face a curb on flights to the European Union, the EU transport commissioner warned yesterday.
The green ultimatum was issued by Jacques Barrot as the transatlantic airline market undergoes its biggest shakeup in 30 years when limits on flights between the EU and US are lifted this month. Barrot said negotiations on a second phase for the treaty will include a demand that US carriers join the EU emissions trading scheme or an equivalent system in the US.
He added that requests by Washington for data on passengers overflying the US are disproportionate and will not be accepted by the EU, which fears that security measures across
