About
OVERVIEW
Founder's story
My Ugandan roots inspired me to share the artistry of my homeland through my business, Lwanga Designs. In 2007 I started Lwanga Designs, offering a unique array of African home décor, kitchen accents, jewelry, and bags, made by village craftswomen and men throughout Africa.
Our mission
Through my business I aim to help improve the lives of women and men in villages across Africa.
Our philosophy
The types of products we sell
We sell high-quality, handcrafted, Eco-friendly home decor and accessories ranging from elegant silver earrings to olive wood spoons to organic cotton bags and outifts. Many of our products are made from recycled materials such as recycled glass and fabric.
Where the producers live and work
Our crafts come from villages and tribes in Kenya, Uganda, Niger, and other areas of West Africa. Many of the women who produce our crafts are HIV positive and depend on a market for their goods to purchase anti-viral medication for themselves and their children. Lwanga Designs is addressing the need for a systemized distribution for their products, as environmental and social factors (such as bad weather or violence) often prevent products from making their way to the metropolitan markets.
