Founder's story
By the time she was a teenager, Aysia Wright was already an environmental crusader. During high school, she initiated a community-wide recycling program and worked part-time at one of the original mainstream eco-centric retailers, The Body Shop. Throughout college, Aysia remained committed to her ideals, earning a BA in Environmental Science at San Diego State followed by an environmental law and policy-focused degree at the University of Virginia. Afterward, Aysia changed directions a bit. She got married and worked as an estate attorney, but soon wondered where her ‘green’ self had gone. So in 2004, Aysia opened Greenloop, one of the nation’s first fashion retailers to balance ethical considerations with serious style. Much to Aysia’s delight, Greenloop’s success has been proof positive that style and sustainable living are not mutually exclusive.
Our mission
Greenloop began in 2004 with the dual goals of using fashion as a vehicle for environmental change and providing a comprehensive shopping resource with a certain aesthetic criteria, for those seeking more sustainable options without sacrificing their sense of style. A fusion of ethics and aesthetics, style and sustainability, of economics and environment, with the aim of illustrating that these concepts are not mutually exclusive.

How we select what we sell
All brands carried by Greenloop employ a variety of responsible practices, including: using eco-friendly, sustainable materials; employing energy efficient and low-impact production; investing in renewable energy and carbon offsets; and maximizing recycling and waste reduction. In addition to these practices, these companies engage in fair trade, support organic agriculture, engage in sweat-shop free production, protect human rights, and donate to various environmental non-profit groups through in-kind and financial gifts.

Each of the brands we carry has a unique, very human story of stewardship, creativity, craftsmanship, passion and vision, operating on the principle of the Triple Bottom Line: People, Planet and Profit. While we do a lot in terms of environmental and social responsibility, we are not perfect and do not claim to be so. We work on improving our business practices and minimizing our environmental footprint every day. With this in mind, we feel our product mix is a solid step in the right direction toward a more sustainable way of life. Some products are made using a portion of "conventional" materials in addition to more eco-friendly textiles and some are not made nearby, however, the finished goods we offer are more planet and people friendly, on balance, than their conventional counterparts: doing less harm, increasing awareness, increasing demand for more sustainable fashion and educating all of us along the way.
