I would love your feedback.  I work with refugees in the suburbs of Chicago.  They are relocated to DuPage County through World Relief.  They struggle with finding low-paying jobs when they don't speak any English and don't have or drive a car.

I want to get some of the women making crafts to sell.  The short-term goal would be to give them a connection and sense of purpose.  The long-term goal would be to pay them fairly for their work and to teach them about business.

Please let me know what you think---and give me any advice you might have on how to get started.

Thanks!  Jess Krauser 630-510-8506 jmkrauser@comcast.net

Hi Jessica,

It sounds like you are doing some great work already! Your question immediately brought to mind one of our Trust Providers that does similar work here in Northern California. The group is called AnewAmerica (www.anewamerica.org/) and their Access to Market Manager, Enrique Ovando, would be a great resource regarding your work and questions at hand. I'll forward his information to the email address you provided.

Best regards,

Jill

Hi Jessica - great idea, and I think Jill's already pointed you in a good direction. You might also check out Risinginternational.org - they work with craft providers from around the world, but because they're intersted in promoting women's opportunities both in the U.S. and abroad, it might be a good fit. Maybe send an email and explain your idea - see if they have any thoughts...
