Why are fair trade products always for women?
I'd love to buy a fair trade bag, scarf or even a neclace for myself but 99% of the product is designed for women.
It is true there do seem to be less pieces for men.....I think one reason is that research has shown that women are more aware of Fair Trade issues & therefore purhase more Fair Trade products than men. Apparantly it is men who are more concerned about the environment......could also be that women buy more clothes & accessories so need a larger range!
Hang in there guys, the demand is here~ soon the supply will follow. As an Account Director for World of Good, that is one of the most prominent concerns I hear from my customers while I'm out on the field, that we lack fashionable, fair trade items for men. I can assure you this has been conveyed to our sourcing team, and I'm confident they will be adding more items for men in the seasons to come, so check in on your local World of Good kiosk frequently!
That also kinds of begs the question of why are there styles "for men" and "for women"? I can understand that men generally buy ties and women generally buy purses, but both men and women buy scarves and need tote bags for their stuff, etc. There are plenty of products that can be marketed in a more androgynous way where you don't have to indicate "for men" or "for women". Personally, I don't wear pink, it's just not my thing. I like darkier, more earthy colors in a lot of products. These things can be carried/worn by either gender. I would like to buy a fair trade laptop bag, a fair trade re-usable lunch sack, a fair trade winter hat, a fair trade pair of jeans!
(Although I am a World of Good, Inc. employee, these opinions are my own.)
Women are the Fairer sex after all.
