Founder's story
Harmony Tibetan Carpets was founded by two women who shared an idea that people could have beautiful handmade rugs while providing cultural and economic sustainability to Tibetan refugees living in Nepal.
Our mission
We seek to promote both economic benefits and cultural survival by keeping the Tibetan designs, motifs and art of ancient carpet weaving alive.
Our philosophy
The types of products we sell
We want to bring high-quality, handmade items to homes and spaces. We use the best quality Tibetan highland sheep wool for our carpets. We are also committed to expanding our line of Natural-Dyed carpets.
Where the producers live and work
We work with small weaving centers managed by family and friends in Nepal. These artisans are dedicated to making rugs with highest craftsmanship and care. Working with family and friends makes it possible to monitor the quality of the work closely and keep the cost down for the client while paying the weavers a good salary for their hard work. No child labor is involved in making our carpets.

Dolma Chuteng graduated from Delhi University and worked for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Charitable Trust in India and Nepal for 17 years. She discovered her passion for books while working in Nepal at Tibet Book Store which she managed successfully until her move to California in 1999, where she has worked for non-profit organizations. Her extended family and friends in Nepal runs a Tibetan carpet business which she is trying to support by marketing them in the U.S. She feels that the wonderful traditional art needs to be appreciated in order to keep it alive. Dolma believes strongly in Fair Trade and wants to support this ancient art which also helps sustain the Tibetan refugee community along with the local Weavers of Nepal. She has three daughters and currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.
