Founder's story
I grew up in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, where I experienced a huge influx of people coming from other Brazilian states, with a dream of improving their lives in this newly designated capital. It was a fascinating melting pot of cultures and beliefs.
In December of 2000, I came to the U.S. to visit my two daughters that were studying in Boston and also, to take an English course. My stay of a few months became an adventure living in another country, speaking another language and the fascination of experiencing a different culture.
In 2005 I married a U.S. citizen and after 6 years, I went back to Brazil. I was truly amazed by the originality and beauty of the handcrafts. The creativity of the artisans’ designs was astounding and the quality of workmanship was a vast improvement from what I had remembered.
I began to understand their cultural importance. And it was fascinating to see the beneficial impacts that the artisans have on their communities and their respect for nature.
After returning home from Brazil, I felt inspired to open a business that would give me an opportunity to reconnect with Brazil's cultural heritage and allowing me to create a green business. Brasil BioDesigns' mission is introducing Brazilian handcrafted goods to the world. We are committed to sustainable development of the planet’s natural resources, by supporting artisans who understand the significance of using sustainable materials in their art and share our values to promote a better and fair world.
