OVERVIEW

Founder's story Having travelled extensively I have witnessed the many inequalities existing between North and South. In 1991 I organized series of in-mall educational/fund-raising exhibitions in Toronto, Canada. Shopping malls generously donated vacant space. Even though the project was never meant to go beyond the originally planned two-months' time frame, it continued on with the support of the volunteers, mall managers and general public which embraced the Fair Trade concept whole-heartedly. In short time it became a full-fledged organization that strives to build long-term relationships with producers, thus assuring them of steady income. We became a member of Fair Trade Federation since its inception.

Where the producers live and work Our producers live mostly in small villages on the many scattered islands of Indonesia. They work at home, often utilizing skills that have been passed down through generations. Majority are women for whom regular employment prospects are scarce, since they are required to look after children and household chores.
