Google has asked children, grades K-12 to design their own version of the Google logo. Better yet, they are asking the kids to incorporate "What if?" questions alongside their artwork to spark imagination.
Yes, it is an effort that promotes an image and logo of a large corporation. But I think that this project displays matters on the minds of today's children.
In fact, viewing the top 40 selections (10 finalists within each age group), we begin to see this new generation showing much promise as a group of responsible citizens. There are messages of peace and sustainable living choices in every age group!

At this moment, the public helps to pick the national champions to replace the logo. You can cast one vote for each of the four age groups, but only between May 12-18. The results will be announced within a week of this final voting stage.
Let the world know your favorites.

Posted by: Felice | May 20, 2008 1:05 PMThanks for sharing this. I went and voted for my favorites - it was really tough! There are so many good ones, both in terms of artistic quality and their responses to the "What if?" question.
I personally really liked the one that asked, "What if Google became a peace maker?" Google has a huge influence on the world, and I think they do try to be a force for good. It is disappointing when one hears of choices that seem to go against the spirit of Google, like their compliance with the Chinese government's censorship laws (if you search Google's China site you will not get any results on the Tiananmen Square protests, for example). However, I hope that by having a presence in certain markets, they can slowly but surely expand their influence and use it for good.
