Our mission statement Our Declaration of Interdependence:

We envision a new sector of the economy which harnesses the power of private enterprise to create public benefit. This sector is comprised of a new type of corporation-the B Corporation- which is purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

As members of this emerging sector and as entrepreneurs and investors in B Corporations,

We hold these truths to be self-evident

That we must be the change we seek in the world;

That all business ought to be conducted as if people and place mattered;

That, through their products, practices, and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.

To do so, requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent upon another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.

The history of our organization B Lab, the non-profit that certifies B Corporations, was founded to create the infrastructure needed for mission-based businesses to grow and scale-namely standards that define what's 'good enough,' a legal structure that would withstand the test of time, and a unifying brand to enable consumers, employees, and investors to recognize good companies-not just good marketing. B Lab began public operations in June of 2007, kicking off at the national BALLE conference in Berkeley, CA. Since then B Lab has certified over 160 B Corporations representing 1B in revenues.
Our organization's standards for producers, products, or sellers To become a B Corporation companies must 1) Achieve a passing score on the B Ratings System, a comprehensive tool to assess a company?s social and environmental performance; and 2) Agree to legally expand the responsibilities of the corporation to include the interests of its employees, suppliers, consumers, community, and environment.
