About

OVERVIEW

Founder's story Jennifer Evans and Claudia Echavarria are world travelers who decided in 2001 to look for something that would allow them to do what they loved best, continue to travel and collect artisan's work from the places they visited. In a store in florida we came across a carving we found most intriguing and as we started to research it we not only discovered Tagua, but along the way we found Fair Trade, sustainability and a wonderful group of carvers in Ecuador. As retired organic farmers this was just up our ally so to speak and something we could through our passion into. We have put that energy and passion to work and currently we are representing many artisans from Africa, Colombia, Ecuador, Indonesia to name a few.
Our mission To be conscious and knowledgeable of whom we buy from, where the materials come from, and that what we sell has as little negative impact on our environment as possible.
Our philosophy Promote craftmanship and an ideology that makes a Fair and better marketplace for artisans in marginal areas to compete in the global market. To promote natural, Fair Trade, and sustainability in our endeavors.
The types of products we sell Tagua nut carvings, braclets, necklaces, ornaments. African Bead work
Where the producers live and work Tagua is the seed of a palm that only grows between Bolivia and Panama. It is found in the rain forest and near coastal areas. The carvers of these wonderful carvings live in and around the west coast of Ecuador. The African Bead work is made in womens coops found in small communities in Kenya these beautiful pieces of art help to preserve african culture and heritage. The egyptian woven braclets or "Manillas" as they are called in Colombia come from the hands of a family that has found community in the art of sitting together to weave it is an ancient art form with new life.
